There is an ongoing debate about the possible relationship between aluminum and Alzheimer’s dementia. But no clear evidence has shown that normal aluminum exposure can cause harm.

The possibility that aluminum might cause damage was raised after autopsies revealed small amounts of aluminum within some of the brain deposits (plaques and tangles) that are characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease. Aluminum is normally found in the body. And it is not clear that this metal is responsible for Alzheimer’s damage.

Researches have studied the impact of aluminum cookware on food. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), if you cook 100 g of tomatoes in an aluminum pan they will absorb roughly 3-6 mg of aluminum. This is only about a tenth of the aluminum someone usually takes in daily. Aluminum is found in many foods. It’s also found in drinking water and in many drugs — both prescription and over the counter.

Home cooking beats fast food for your health any day. So don’t worry about the pan.
