If you need surgery or a dental procedure and are allergic to any medications, latex, sulfites, foods, or contrast dye used in certain x-rays, tell each of the medical personnel taking care of you about the allergy. Don't take it for granted that your allergy information will be communicated between different providers. Remind every doctor, dentist and nurse who performs a procedure or administers an injection or drug that you have a medication allergy.

Because it's easier to cope with one set of symptoms at a time, if you have hay fever and need surgery on your nose, mouth or face (including cosmetic surgery), avoid scheduling the operation during the hay fever season. If that's not possible, be sure that your doctor knows about your allergy and is aware of any medications you are taking.
