Famous Physicist Two-time Nobel Prize winner Marie Curie died on this date in 1934. Along with her husband Pierre, a French scientist, the Polish-born physicist discovered radium and polonium. Their joint study of radioactive elements also contributed to the understanding of atoms, knowledge upon which much of nuclear physics is based. Curie died of pernicious anemia, which, in her case, was caused by overexposure to radiation.
