Brain Work On this date in 1909, the Neurological Institute of New York opened under the supervision of Alexander H. Candlish. Neurology, as a medical discipline, took shape in the 19th century thanks to the work of Robert Remak and Johannes Purkinje, both pioneers in research into the microscopic features of the human brain. The Neurological Institute of New York was the first medical institution established to specifically study nervous diseases. Today, the Neurological Institute is an internationally recognized center for brain disorder treatment.
