A Meeting Of The Minds

American psychology pioneer Granville Stanley Hall was the brains behind the first psychology society. Hall, president of Clark University, organized the American Psychological Association in July 1892 on the university's campus in Worcester, Mass., and served as its first president. Hall earned his Ph.D. in psychology at Harvard University and, after a brief teaching stint, left in 1881 for Johns Hopkins University, where he set up the first key American laboratory of psychology. The APA's first scientific meeting was held on this date in 1892 at the University of Pennsylvania.
