Start The Presses On this date in 1797, "The Medical Repository" became the first medical magazine and the first scientific periodical published in the United States. The magazine promoted itself as a "depository of facts and reasonings relative to Natural History, Agriculture and Medicine." T & J Swords in New York City did the printing for the Faculty of Physicians at Columbia College. The magazine was published quarterly until it ceased publication in 1824.
