No Bones About It On this date in 1892, the first osteopathy school was chartered. Dr. Andrew Taylor Still and Dr. William Smith founded the American School of Osteopathy, located in a small frame cottage in Kirksville, Mo. According to the articles of incorporation, the purpose of the school was “to improve our system of surgery, midwifery, and treatment of general diseases -- the adjustment of the bones is the leading feature of this school.”
