Patient Heal Thyself The first homeopathic medical society, the Hahnemann Society, was organized on this date in 1833, in Philadelphia. This society was named after Samuel Hahnemann, who is credited with founding the practice of homeopathy in the mid-18th century. In his early medical experience, Hahnemann was alarmed by the medical errors caused by other medical professionals and was dismayed by the ill effects of drug toxicity. He established a new approach to treatment that emphasized fresh air and exercise. In 1848, the Hahnemann Society founded the Homeopathic College of Pennsylvania, later to become Hahnemann University.
