I've been sober for a few years and I'm ready to stop smoking. But people tell me it's harder than quitting alcohol. Why? Is there anything I can do to make it easier?

I'm 50 years old and worry about heart disease. My dad and four of his brothers had bypass surgery. I exercise four days a week, take Lipitor daily and have my cholesterol checked every six months. My only vices are having a few drinks on weekends along with a few cigars. Other than changing my diet, what else can I do?

I noticed that ACE inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers seem to be prescribed for the same condition. Which is better for me, Lisinopril or the costly Avapro? I have intermittent, slightly high blood pressure with hereditary risk factors.

I weigh 190 pounds. I have a high resting heart rate that goes up to 180 beats per minute -- my maximum limit -- with moderate exercise. I know there are drugs, such as beta blockers, that can slow down heart rate. Is this something I should consider? Are there any side effects? Can I stop the medication without drawback symptoms?
