Basics All areas of the United States are at risk from some type of natural disaster. According to the National Disaster Coalition, a group of insurers, 85% of the American population is at risk. The cost and impact of these disasters have become more severe in the last decade. Facing a Disaster When faced with the risk of disasters, people must make timely and critical decisions. People must decide whether they will prepare for a disaster, how they will prepare and what they will do during and after a disaster. All of these decisions, and many more, affect the outcome of a disaster event. In order to make informed decisions, people must have information about disasters and preparedness.
