Basics All areas of the United States are at risk from some type of natural disaster. According to the National Disaster Coalition, a group of insurers, 85% of the American population is at risk. The cost and impact of these disasters have become more severe in the last decade. Facing a Disaster When faced with the risk of disasters, people must make timely and critical decisions. People must decide whether they will prepare for a disaster, how they will prepare and what they will do during and after a disaster. All of these decisions, and many more, affect the outcome of a disaster event. In order to make informed decisions, people must have information about disasters and preparedness. Because disasters can strike suddenly and without warning, being prepared and educated about disasters before they strike is the best way to decrease some of the risk. Resources for Natural Disasters
