Some of Mother Nature's children are bigger troublemakers than others. For example, thousands of varieties of plants carry pollen (including more than 1,000 grasses alone), but only a handful or so are likely to cause allergic reactions. Flowers tend not to be of concern, because there's less of it than other types, and flower pollen is heavier than the pollen from trees and grasses.
Knowing the type of pollen that could be causing you trouble may help you to predict what seasons will cause you the most allergy symptoms. If you and your doctor decide that allergy shots would be recommended for you, then specific identification of your pollen allergy or allergies will provide your doctor with a recipe for what to include in your allergy shots.
